Traveler placement

What do you think about this placement. I have a cabin top and I don't like it there. I could do the bridgeway, put that seems to be too much in the way. Due to how my lazerettes open up, this is my only other option. It would be right at the boom end. Boat is a CS34. General opinions welcome, structural, aesthetic, logistical etc, does not need to be specific to my brand.

My boat came with the same set-up originally. PO converted to mid bom sheeting on cabin top. The set-up you are thinking about is probably fine, but doesn't allow for much travel side to side. Have you thought about a traveler configuration that goes the full width of the cockpit on top of the seats?

You could always go with the Hunter-style traveler on an arch..

Thats what I would like, the full length. But my seats open all the way back on both sides.

It would have to go forward of the lockers.

LOL... ROFLMAO... That's kind of what I thought you'd say... but it'd look so nice on your CS34.

Plumper is on a distinguished road
It kind of defeats the purpose if there is only a foot or so of travel each way from the centerline. The good thing about cabin top travelers is they have a great arc of movement even when they are only the cabin width wide. When you dump the traveler on that kind of design, it makes a difference. A little dinky traveler right aft is almost a waste of money. It would be like having a one foot long traveler mid boom. The farther aft you put it, the longer it has to be to be effective.

BF,

I may be the lone discenter here, but I sailed a boat for a while with that and hated it. I was always smacking my shin on it and tripping over it everytime I wanted to go forward to trip the main. It makes single handling more burdensome. Think about going to weather and someone sitting in the seat close to the trav and having to manuever around them and it.

I realize the benefits of having it there, but the tradeoffs were not worth it to me. But I do not race and prefer a more liesurely sail - thus prefer cabin top. The difficulty with the cabin top is that to adjust it, you have to go forward. You could consider extending the lines to make it more accessible from the back of the cockpit.

Just some thoughts. Hope you are doing well. I still owe you a call.

- CD
