Paging CruisingDad... Catalina call on line one...  CD is a technical editor for one of the Catalina models... the 400 IIRC.
Single line reefing doesn't really allow you to optimally shape the reefed sail and also has some other issues... I'd recommend you read the Pineapple Sails article on reefing systems... located HERE.
Also, highly recommend you read the post I refer to in my signature... it will help you get the most out of your time on sailnet. Welcome to the asylum.
