Azura is on a distinguished road
Many Boats

I'm not normally talkative. This post is because I need to send a response to another Sailnet member and got a popup about not being able to send private messages unless I had 10 posts. Sorry.

I included a link to my personal website that shows the construction of my grandfather's very unusual sailboat reputed to go 60 miles an hour, the Herreshoff 15 that I built with my brother in my backyard, and the Peterson 44 that I am currently rebuilding, but I got another popup saying that I could not post with a "link". Sorry again. If you Google "svAzura" my site will be the first to come up.

All I'm trying to do is give good information to another member.

[EDIT: I moved this reply from the G&M forum because you appear to have made duplicate posts.]

Your grandfather was obviously a clever man. He built an unusual boat for its time, with many innovative features, and built it well enough to survive a serious grounding during a hurricane. And some might say pretty, too.

But the claim of 60 mph is, frankly, fantastic. From the waterline down, Moby Dick appears to be a fairly conventional displacement hull with a LWL of 37 feet, limiting her top speed to somewhere in the 8-10 knot range. All the streamlining above the waterline will help her get to those speeds more quickly in light air, but will not increase her top speed.

Or were you pulling our legs???

Very nice website, by the way!! I was able to link to it via your signature line, and will enjoy looking over your construction photos, etc!

You say you're not a talkative type..... I'd say your work speaks loud and clear on your behalf. Beautiful work all around, you are right to have a great deal of pride in what you've done.

Very nice.
