If money were no object I would have an Antares 44i. I've actually sailed one out of annapolis. Very nice boat. It's not built for charter, it's build for livaboard. The woodwork is cored material, but doesn't feel cheap. It comes fully loaded down to the washer and dryer, and it's still faster than many charter cats.
No one here has yet mentioned a Privelege Cat.
We felt the ones we've been on seemed much more like conventional sailboat interiors and construction than the other cats we've seen. We had friends that had one take a flyer and flip in Ivan and get totaled out. They turned right back around and bought exactly the same boat again. Now THAT is owner loyalty!
Just had a quick peak at some of them on YachtWorld. You are right. Nice looking bit of kit.
For my next trick I am going to sell my Audi and buy a Citroen and trade in all this Windows gumph on some computerised fruit.
(Before you get any ideas re Audi, let me tell you that mine is , cough, not exactly in pristine condition. Remember Columbo's Peugeot ? oh well, at least I don't have to get the alarm fixed.)
Hey, you can actually see my car, parked outside my office on Google with this street view stuff.

Could do with a bit more lounge in the saloon but other than that , not bad. Could keep the girlfriend up front to port and the wife aft to starboard. They need never know they are both on board. (in your deams rodent)
now, trade in the Audi.....$5,000 tops........who do I have to kill for the other $695,000.

The price is actually not bad for what you get. By the time you load up a FP cat like this, the price would be higher for a boat that's not quite as good. I just looked for a price for a new FP Orana 44. The only one in the US was an 08 model for 638K.
From the FP web site equipment list for the new Orana 44: Electronics : . 1 navigational unit with log, depth sounder, wind speed and direction indicator :
- 1 wind speeed / direction indicator display at helm station
- 1 log / sounder display at helm station
- 1 multi-function repeater at chart table
. 1 VHF masthead antenna
Ok reality check here. I cannot see me spending more than 1/4million on a boat and that's ready to cruise. If I can do it for $200,000 then even better. So 40' plus cats are out even if i could live with the overal size of the thing.
That said the Antares is top of the pile as far as I can see. In particular I happen to be taken with the 42'. This one from 2001. Have a look.
That is a nice boat. To my mind the 44i is moving towards too much plastic and that marketing fella in the video makes my teeth hurt. He called that boat a PRODUCT. A product for effs sake. How could any self respecting sailor buy a boat, a thing to be loved and nutured, that which you will talk to as you sail across a storm tossed sea or work you way to weather off a nasty lee shore, when the builder thinks of it as a product. Herrumph, the sucker probably wears pale tan loafers......
However, a second hand seven year old model has had time to undergo the necessary pschyotherapy and forget about such a total oik while getting on with business of being a boat.
I truely liked the look of that thing.
Still think they are too big for my meagre needs but even I recognise that a 20' catamaran would not be a terribly practical device. Be like riding a rodeo bronc.

Hmm... Chuckles, your boat is 34' LOA... did that have anything to do with you picking 33.5' as your minimum figure???

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

If you're new to the Sailnet Forums... please read this POST.
Under say 33.5 feet they look ugly - and just are not practical at all.
TDW, there are quiet a few out there that are older that can be had for 250k.
Craig, you know you liked sailing on Patience Two, so put the mandolin away and leave the muster line.
Holy Buck, James Wharram is still around !!! I hadn't heard anything about that old duffer since I threw away my last tied dyed indian shirt. Wow.
Heavy man. Bring on the ming beans and tofu.
You are dead right Chuckles but I'd bet that under 35'ish they are not all that comfortable at sea. (I really think that should be 40' but I don't want a certain person to get upset,ok?)
I still like that Antares 42 but you can pick up the odd Privilege for under 1/4 million. Nice one in Israel. Arghhhhh..........that would make for a fun maiden voyage.........
