This has been pretty interesting really and I do thank you all for participating.
What I see is that competently handled and of a good design multihulls are an admirable thing with one major drawback. That drawback being their overall bulk.
Cruising the south pacific, the Oz Barrier Reef or the Kimberley's they would have to be the perfect craft. Cruise in areas with smaller or more congested ports/anchorages and a mono is going to come out on top.
For me the bulk issue is probably the deciding issue. Much as I can see to like about some of the smaller cats that Chuckles threw into the mix, reality is that if I wanted a multi it would end up around 40' and that simply represents more bulk in my carapace than I care to carry around with me.
Mind you, if Imagines boat came on the market I'd be sorely tempted. She is a very nice hole in water that one, very nice indeed.
Which maybe brings up another topic, and that is the age of a boat. I do find that I am more attracted to older craft that new and a lot of that has to do with things like the patina of the woodwork. Interesting topic to discuss but methinks in it's own thread.
