C22 Front Hatch Replacement?

Hi all,

I'm about to buy a 1986 Catalina 22. Its front hatch (the one on the cabin top up by the bow) is made of fiberglass instead of lexan. I'd really, really prefer the lexan (see-through) front hatch.

Has anyone ever retrofitted an older C22 with the lexan front hatch? Is it possible to simply drop in a replacement or is the mold on the cabin top different for each hatch?

Thanks in advance.

-Bryan

Congratulations in advance on your purchase of your C22!

As you have probably noticed, the 1986 and later models have significant improvements over the older ones (I had a 1988)

You can get a replacement hatch for your boat, along with almost everything else from

Catalina Direct: Welcome to Catalina Direct Online

They also have a message board, and the people there are very knowledgeable about your boat.

Good luck!

Found my Answer

Thanks David,

I'm well aware the hatch can be replaced. What I was looking for was a way to retrofit the newer, Lexan hatch into the older, fiberglass hatch opening.

Turns out, there is a solution (for those searching the forum in the future): Cruising Concepts/Catalina Retrofit Hatch It looks pretty sharp to me! Certainly beats the old fiberglass hatch.

Bryan:

Glad to hear it. Let us know how it works out, and, please, post pictures of your new boat.

I do miss mine...
