Exactly...BTW, on a smaller boat, you might not need a six-to-one purchase, and might be able to get away with just a four-to-one or so.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Yeah, I am pretty sure it's 4:1 on this boat.

I'm not sure but I think this arrangement is called a Crosby rig. 4:1 is more than adequate for my 23 footer. The single cam cleat is mounted on a Harken 144 swivel on the port side, along with a hexaratchet block. I've never felt the need to switch the ratchet on. The sheet is easily cleated or released with a flick of the wrist from either side.

I use a powerful boom vang in lieu of a traveler. I started with a 3:1 tackle and added a single block to cascade it to 6:1. The picture shows another block in the system to make it 12:1 but that was TOO powerful--I bent the boom.
