If it was built after 1972, the HIN should be on a plate on the starboard side of the transom... if built before then, it's a crap shoot.

Post 1972 there is a second one hidden someplace else on the boat, but that location isn't standardized at could be in a locker or behind a fixture or under a hatch.

Are you an Excalibur 26 owner. I owned one (with a partner) many years ago. She was a 1967 model and I owned her from about 1978 to 1983. Nice boat.
