Do hate your nav station?

Do you look at that mostly unused space and think that it's a tradition based on times of old ( pencil and paper)? Or do you adheer tightly to the tried and true reasoning that you need a place to chart, plot, communicate, store charts, etc. :chainsaw

If you did away with the nav station would you replace or change it into:

Breakfast nook?

A game station for the teens,

An entertainment station?

Make it a real nav station with charts, plotting tools, etc?

A wine and cheese bar with fridge underneath, hanging glass rack above, wine rack on the side, (I like this one!)

A beer miester type of station (sure to be a hit at the anchorages)

Explain why you need the nav station even though you have a $$$$ plotter right at the helm? we know you have to have charts for the CG if they board your boat.

Explain to the spouse, that you can't really use the nav station because it's now part of his or her Galley or living quarters so you really need that $$$$ plotter at the helm?

Assure the OP that she's really lost her mind!

ps; if you haven't guessed, this is not deeply serious thread!

Every single liveaboard I know keeps the laptop there (myself included). So I don't hate my nav station. I'm sitting at it right now, goofing off when I should be working.

I do, however, hate the broken down foam cushion that makes its seat.

My old Nav Station was the bridge deck. My new one can be the galley table or the top of the icebox. My instruments are an old depthsounder and a handheld gps.

Nope...like ours a lot, although I am usually finding my self confused when I sit there...trying to figure out where the fock we are.:D

An older pic of the nav station, many updates since. A nice feature, the nav seat will lay flat and convert to a nice double bunk.

I don't know how you other guy's handle your navigation chores but this is the way I do it. The nav station in my Bendy toy faces aft and that bothers me.

When we are out cruising as a family we usually anchor out. I am a early riser so I get up and put a pot of coffee on. I pour myself a cup and move out to the cockpit with my chart kits and nav tools. Over coffee I plan the days run. Waypoints, compass courses to the next waypoint. Approximate Mileage and time in route between waypoints. I Transfer this information to a plain sheet of writing paper that I put in a plastic sleeve. That I keep at the helm next to the Garmin. By my 3rd cup of coffee the family is string and I am putting away my nav stuff.

Mine is a holds all the portable stuff (sat radio, handheld vhf and charger, car keys, dvd case while dvd is in the tv and have the subwoofer for the tv under it)

Not sure where I would put those w/o it. I like it

Ours is more or less "my" space - fill out the log, do a crossword, kick back in the morning with my coffee as does bubb2 above....

In the 'chart table' we store many items that are commonly and quickly required - easy and convenient access. It also has considerable storage under the seat, in hull cubbies and in a cabinet..

On your Oday that would be a might tight breakfast nook!

So no, don't hate it and not sure what I'd put in that space anyway

Love our Nav station. Find myself doing serious plotting there or even just reading. Faces forward...well designed. Large opening lift top table with great storage for many knick knack which would go flying about without it. Has 4 drawers in its side.

Is this a question or a command? Do hate your nav station or do you hate your nav station make up your mind =)
