The more you cut away to taper the ends the lower your Cp.

I just feel bad that I can't explain it better. If you were sitting here next to me, I'd pull out a roll of flimsy and in no time have enough diagrams to show you what I mean. But I have lost patience with my own inability to put it into words. Killing's book is the best and partly due to the most excellent illustrations.
