Windlass for LN 35

I have a Lord Nelson 35 on which I'm planning to replace the SL 555 with a Lofrans Tigres. The electrical connection is already in place. The problem is that the footprint of the Tigres is such that if the chain holes lined up, I would have to cut into the sampson post by about 9" ,not a good idea. So the alternative seems to be to build a steel platform above and forward of where the SL is now. Has anyone had any experience doing this sort of installation?
Thanks,
Marcvet
