muffler replacement

I'm replacing the muffler on my 79 volvo penta md7a. I have the muffler off the foot but can't get the hoses off, so imagine I'll need to replace them as well. Does anybody have any tricks to keep in mind for muffler replacement (sabre 28 - it's tight down there), and can anybody tell me what kind of hose is now used for this kind of exhaust?
thanks

Have you tried pour hot water over the hoses? Is the muffler plastic? You can cut off the ends, and slice the neck of the muffler so it will fold out of the hose.......i2f

thank you for responding - will try the hot water trick. It's the original muffler and is metal, corroded at the base and leaking buckets into the bilge. the hoses, which seem to be corroded to the two, top-in muffler ports, are that very stiff black kind and I'm hoping to replace them with something more flexible and easier to work with.
cheers

They are probably very stiff, because they are rated for the purpose......i2f

if you are replacing them you could just cut em off, but be advised there is probably a metal wire in there, so you might not want to use your fav knife
