These boats are essentially scaled-down Cal25s - we haven't owned one but I know of one that was owned by some acquaintances.. it seemed to serve them well. As ever, with boats of that vintage do a real good inspection and a proper survey if the initial inspection doesn't show up anything fatal.
They won't be lightning quick but today's standards, but for gunkholing around the Gulf Islands as a starter it would be fine, if a bit cramped and essentially 'camping cruising'.
