Question Bristol 32 gearbox

My Bristol 32 has a 27A Westerbeake with a Hurth gear and the forward gear is slow to engage and has to be handled very carefully. It looks like a new clutch pack is required. Has anyone ever removed the gear without having to remove the entire engine. I replaced the fuel tank several years ago, and it is designed to be removed very quickly which will help with access to the gearbox area.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Al

If your motor mounts are on the gear it will need a block of wood under the bell housing for support. Disconnect shaft flange and slide it back a bit. Unbolt mounts if needed and support engine. If mounts are are on the engine simply unbolt gear and work it back so the splines disengage. It will drop about now so needs support . It's not that heavy but if you are working at arm's length, take care. Option is to move whole engine out where you can get at it.
