Vancouver area marine Electricians

Hi all,

I've just bought a 1971 Albin Vega 27 (my first boat), lots of work has been done, including new mast and sails in 2004.

As I plan to live aboard along the Fraser River at Shelter Island in the spring, there are lots of projects on my list. I will begin by contacting Roberto at Lafabrica for a new dodger, etc who was recommended by one of the members here. Thank you!

I wonder if anyone can suggest any people competent with boat wiring, hull insulation and woodwork (cabinetry). I did email one boatyard, but six days later I still have not received a reply.

I don't object to paying a bit extra for people I can rely on who care about
the work they do.

There's a fellow named Graham (sorry, lost the last name) who works out of Ocean Yacht Equipment in Burnaby - friends have used him for electronics installation, servicing and troubleshooting with good results. Whether he does rewiring in general I don't know but I suspect he'd take on such a job.

Have you contacted MasterCraft Canvas as well? From what I've seen they do good work at a reasonable price. We used Watershed canvas and while pleased with the result, the process was a bit painful.

Graham Cole is the name of the guy Faster was referring to. His number is (PM me). Another fellow who has worked on my boat (electrical work), and I was very happy with is Larry Hammond at (PM me). Larry installed my chartplotter, radar, and new battery bank. I am going to get him to install a larger battery charger early next year. I imagine that either of them would be available as this is generally a slower time for that kind of work. Brad Mah at Ocean Yacht Equipment is a great, reliable guy for equipment as well. It is my understanding that both Larry and Graham work with Brad on various projects.
These guys can probably suggest some good tradesmen for the other projects as well.

I have seen some good work and bad work in my time.

I would strongly suggest a company called Comar Electrical Services Ltd. They have never failed us. From electronics through total refits, salvage, sunken, fires, through to a simple receptacle installation. I have seen this company do what they said they could do on every vessel, which I find rare these days. They have also installed complete computer networking systems as well as multiple cameras on some vessels.

They have a home base in Port Coquitlam (near Harken Towing) and an office in Shelter Island (Richmond beside Bracewell Boatworks and SeaTec).
