Cut a slot to loosen the shell ...

with the shaft removed one can use a hack saw blade or a recipocating saw (carefully) and cut a single slot all the way through. This open slot allow you to partailly collapse the shell and so loosen it in the hole. It the shell has been glued in you might need to cut a many as four or six slots and then 'peel' the resulting strips up and pull them out. Usually there are one or more set screws that sit in a dimple in the outer wall of the shell and by backing off the set screw and relieving any pressure (tight fit) by cutting a single slot the shell can be persuaded to slide out.
