Reccommended size for name on vessel

Just purchased a 380 Catalina. What is a nice size for the lettering, of the vessels name, to be legible from a distance. My boat is documented, so it must be at least 4 " tall. I do want it to be proportionable to the size of boat also. Tentatively thinking of 9" tall and 40 wide. Name is Manana. Just think it is a little on the small size. Any size criteria to abide by? Suggestions?

Our letters in Europe have to be at least 15 cm tall by 8cm wide...and the rule says as long as it can be read from the distance its acceptable any patterns or shape.

We had ours drwan by a friend.

It's different..that's all. But let your imagination work, it really gives character to a boat if you spend some time doing something different..don't you agree??

Also, don't forget, the homeport must be 3" high.

Go to some of the online graphics outfits (BoatUS has one, and there are others) and check out some fonts you might like. The software will tell you the size of the final product. Different fonts will come out different sizes of course. I worked with a graphics outfit in Annapolis to find a font that fit the name of my boat -- and you. Here's what I chose for my boat:
