Yes...the speed came as a result of re-using the old sail net mail server but that was NOT the reason the lists were discontinued. The new server for the forums is merely a byproduct of the business decision to discontinue the mail lists.
As such, the 100k plus users will now have a much better web experience.

Cam, I know perfectly well that servers are not all that expensive. I'm not confusing anything--it's SAilnet who's confused. Sailnet made a bad business decision on the email lists. Lots of people from the email lists will never darken their web portal again. As I have said before the price of the goodwill lost far outweighs the cost of a server. and I think it was Admin jeff who said the email lists had to go so that Sailnet could redeploy it. If they can't afford a server, how much longer will Sailnet be around?
And do you really think 100,000 people use the other Sailnet web services? SA probably has a much better chance of hitting that number than Sailnet does.
