Why is my iPhone banned?

Hi,

I thought I was a law abiding Sailnetter, but I find that when I try to open SN on my iPhone, I get a message saying that "the administrator has banned your IP". I went to whatismyip dot com on the iPhone and it is coming back as 166.137.137.239.

How can I get back in the good graces of the SN gods?

Bill Sullivan

Hi Bill... it must be someone on your provider was banned for some reason and that IP got caught in a trap. We'll look into it and get back to you. I trust you don't get that message on your home PC?

Ron

I will look into it but it will take a few days to give you an answer since we have multiple firewalls that could be doing the block

Bill, try killing your router for a half hour and then restarting it. Depending on how you connect to the internet...if your ISP is using a pool of addresses that should be long enough to ensure you are assigned to a different one, they typically are served up at random as each customer logs in.

If that's a cellular data connection, try the same thing. Kill the phone for a while, see what comes up the next time.

HS,
Problem seems to have been resolved in much the way you suggested. BillSull had the misfortune of logging on using a mobile IPA that had been banned due to its use by a serial spammer. Once he shut down and restarted his phone the problem went away.
We had a similar problem a while back with similar conflict and it turned out to be a marina WIFI IPA. One fellow had got the entire marina black banned.

"One fellow had got the entire marina black banned."
That's a problem, especially if no one actually looks up the IP before the ban to see if it is a pooled address. As most if not many are.

HS,
I confess that was a typo. It should have read "One fellow had nearly got the entire marina black banned." We actually twigged to it before the IPA was banned thank heavens. An IPA search brought up a number of members who had used that IPA so we realised something was afoot.
