Well, this worked. Sad this is the first time I feel like I need to install an adblock.

I think you will find the sailnet experience much improved with it. I know that is how thy make there money off the site, but the ads slow the page loads down so much, that I find the site unusable without it. Other sites like Facebook as well, not only more pleasant, but much faster. I don't think I could deal with the web in general without it anymore. One of those things that after you use it you wonder how you got along without it.
I actually stayed away from Sailnet for over a year because of the ads.

Re: Permanently disabling chat
Just an FYI - I had been simply ignoring the chat bar. Yesterday on my office PC I turned off chat via the 'gear' pulldown. (PC/Chrome) I do log off my work computer each day and do not use the 'remember me' function.
This morning, after logging in anew all that's there is a small unobtrusive 'power' button lower right corner of screen to turn it back on if I want to.

Re: Permanently disabling chat
It's not so much of a hassle for me (as Faster said, only a few clicks to turn off), but sometimes I don't notice that I'm logged into it for awhile and based on another thread about this I guess that clogs it up for those that are using it.

Re: Permanently disabling chat
If everybody got ad blocker, then there'd be no worry on how fast or usable the site is, because it wouldn't exist.

Well given how often this site gets blacklisted on Google from the ads on it trying to install malware and how most of the errors I have gotten on the site are directly related to the ads. I would not bother, but as I said they make the site basically unusable, so without ad bock I figure the site does not exist anyway. There are plenty of other sites that have no ads.

Re: Permanently disabling chat
I'm curious, since I'm not experiencing those difficulties, even though I'm on wifi and not using adblockers. I've gone to reputable news sites and picked up the Win7 anti-virus trojan, more than once. I've yet to pick up any malware from this site.

Re: Permanently disabling chat
I'm also curios miatapaul, why you bother at all, if it's such an unusable site, with so many problematic features.

Re: Permanently disabling chat
So it's an okay site, as long as you block out the stuff that makes the site possible?
