Where can I find satellite weather images and data for the South Pacific?
Michael Carr responds:
First contact OCENS (www.ocens.com), since they post high-resolution images each day on their website. In addition, OCENS produces a software program that allows you to download and view high-resolution satellite images from NOAA's satellite directory free of charge. You can actually select the area of the globe along with dates and times. This is the best option since these images are very high resolution, in fact they provide half-mile pixel resolution!
You may also visit NOAA's significant satellite imagery site on the internet, www.osei.noaa.gov. Images are likely to be here, and if not, you'll find links to tropical satellite directories. I have found that OCENS SAA (Satellite Active Archive) software is the best method for obtaining and viewing images for specific locations at specific times.
