Sue & Larry is on a distinguished road
Global Sailing Routes

I'm planning to seek passage from Sri Lanka to Australia early next year. I was able to get passage from Australia to Papua New Guinea and I want to try the same thing. Do you know the most common routes taken by yachts travelling east of Sri Lanka between April and July? Also, where can I find a chart of popular yacht routes around the world?

Sue & Larry respond:
Sailors who are on a world cruise or circumnavigation try to time their passages to coincide with favorable weather patterns around the globe. For planning information about world sailing routes along with weather information, sailing directions, and navigational advice, two publications really stand out. Both Ocean Passages for the World, by British Admiralty, and World Cruising Routes by Jimmy Cornell should provide you with the information that you seek. These books are available on line.
