Alex has a very good point. That aside, if you're stuffing the sheets in the bag too, I've always been taught to stuff them first, and leave all the hanks at the top of the bag with the clew tack outermost, so you can hank it on starting from the bottom up, then run the sheets. This is for small boats with fairly short sheets. I've never used a hank-on sail on anything over 25', where I might do as Alex suggests. I have no experience with using soft shackles for this purpose. Something to try.
