Ready to go!

After over a year in New Zealand we are heading back across the Pacific.

Route is: New Zealand to Nuka Hiva to Hawaii to Sitka.

Three of us to Hawaii and five from Hawaii to Sitka.

Total time at sea should be about 80 days with 1-2 week layovers in Nuka Hiva and Hawaii.

Phil & Nell.

Re: Ready to go!

All the best on the passage.

What in the world is the attraction to being in Alaska on a sailboat? Is the season seriously more than 3 months long?

Due to the prevailing winds, it is an easier sail when returning from Hawaii. Also, it is beautiful cruising grounds making your way down to Washington.

Re: Ready to go!

Sounds like a great adventure and one that not many undertake. Will Nuka Hiva to Hawaii be upwind?

Roger that. However, about half way there, can't you hang a hard right and end up in Southern CA in about the same amount of time?

Re: Ready to go!

I think the idea is to get on top of the Pacific High for some smoother sailing Northward...

The bearable weather window, for me, is narrow, but AK is really a biggy.
Puts the B in big....call it impressive.
