Small Craft Charts

This may be basic, but what is the difference between a regular chart and a small craft chart?

Small Craft Charts

Small Craft Charts used to be called ''tabloid'' or ''strip charts''. They are accordian folded charts that are intended to be easier to use in the cockpit of a small boat and often cover a pretty large area of the coast. They usually contain a bit more detail of shallow venues and narrow rivers and creeks. They have somewhat been replaced by chart books.

Small Craft Charts

Ahoy, jeff is correct they are also are less expensive and can be used for practice navigation off the water. I would not use any but the real deal if your out. Also try to keep in mind that navigation on your dining room table is a lot easier than in the cramped space on the boat. Practice to keep you skills sharp on a small portion of a large chart.
