I have a Catalina 27 (1975 version) and it has a small compartment at the head of the V birth. I had a bow roller and hawse deck pipe installed into this compartment, with chain holder. The anchor is a 22 lb Delta plow. We have deeper anchorage here so I have had to use Brait line for my rode, along with 30 feet of chain. I have 300 feet of line and the chain and it fits; it won't if you use normal line for your rode. I completed all of this in my upgrading of my older Catalina about one year ago.

I am guessing your Catalina also has the small compartment in the V birth as well.

I do have this compartment - though I've never explored it. Where do you drain it to?

Straight out the side of the boat - both sides preferably. Epoxy in a short length of 1" PVC pipe.
