Question rail-mount chocks or cleats?

My boat is not equipped with midship chocks or cleats.

Seems to me the easiest solution would be to put slide-mount chocks or cleats on the genoa-fairlead tracks, which are mounted on the toerails. Does anyone sell such things mail-order? Is this a good solution?

Shaffer makes rail cleats for 1" and 1 1/4" track. Here is a link to their page, but I am sure you can order them through an outfit like Defender, or Rigging Only.

Schaeffer makes them for their genoa rails. I have them on my boat, and they're very convenient. They're pin-stop designs.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Garhauer makes a good product, my only comment about these is that it doesn't look like a single piece of stainless. It looks more like bolted together model.

The Garhauer shown has the pin in the center of the cleat--making it impossible to pull an eye through the middle and drop it around the horns. Which can be a handy way for a fast tie-up.

If you never do that...or they don't make the conventional horn cleat design..they'd do. Garhauer has a rep for making top quality products and simply not spending any money on marketing, so they can sell for less.

I made my own teak pads, angled to shed water and just high enough to clear the toerail. I backed them with 1/4" aluminum, because I stop the boat with a mid-ship spring, and I didn't want to screw around.

Of course, I've had track tear loose of the deck due to wind pressure on the sheet, so I perhaps have a different view of retrofitting.
