Nice rescue by teens in New Orleans..

Three young teens in a Flying Scot helped rescue a trio from a swamped skiff who might very well have snuffed it otherwise:

http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/index.ssf?/ba....xml&coll=1

These were Southern Yacht Club kids and also a father/son (I know the father) in a RHIB who rescued these presently unknown (but now still alive enough to disappear) non-swimmers from a choppy lake, within sight of shore. Looks like the Club is now trying to get some recognition for them, and it would seem rightly so.

In a Northerly, the Lake just past the harbor entrance can be a nasty place, "square chop" and not much searoom before you end up on the lakeshore steps. You help someone out at the risk of getting set ashore yourself.

Well done to all.

They certainly deserve to be recognized and rewarded for thier acts.
Very well done.
And to think, the victims didn't even thank them. They should be honored by any and all.

Here's the photo I didn't know how to link before.

These are the kids, ages 14, 14, and 15. They kept the victims above water and breathing long enough for the adults (father and son, pictured) to get to the last 2 of the 3 in time.

Whether they ever get thanked by those they rescued isn't really the point--they all acted inthe best tradition of the sea.

Good on all of them.

Nice story, thanks for the link. Wonder how the fishing boat swamped?? and why they didn't have PFDs on?

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Around here 90% of the time, fishermen in boat do not have a PDD on. It may be a higher number as I can't recall any that I've seen wearing them.

Kids with more brains and heart than many adults I know....

Fred came to my mind reading this.

God bless these youngsters, and may their minds never be corrupted by the BS we are living in...

When we go out fishing in cold weather in a small open boat, we always wear PFDs.
