Yes, the Hydrovane has that advantage... I have looked at one or two.

Anything that can be fastened to a rope and gives friction in the water: a tabletop, a chair, a boom, a bucket, a hatchet, a board,an axe, a dog, the board under the bed, THEN you can adjust the sails to compensate for the drag on one side. Put it on the side away from the wind (lee?) and use the mainsail towards the wind. The point being TWO opposing forces.
