Here are a few truths about charts:
1. Plot everything in true on the chart, use the outer ring of the compass rose for picking off the course & bearings.
2. Convert magnetic bearings and courses to true. Remember Your course has the deviation and bearings do not have deviation. So use your course's deviation to convert the bearings from magnetic to true. Don't forget the variation also.
3. Use the latest editions of the charts of the areas you are in.
4. Keep those charts corrected by using the weekly Notice to Mariners.

Peruse Chart 1 in order to understand the chart symbols. what is it? a rock!!

Remember PLOT everything on the chart in true.
