Rules are rules, except when the other boat's handrail is big enough to chew a hole in your stem. Skipper might have been technically correct, but physics in the form of mega yacht Maltese Falcon really won the argument.

Valiente, Falcon was lucky. If you would hit them with your boat you would hole and sink them.

Repair of the rub rail and to the varnish on the Falcon probably cost more than the other boat. Hope they get it fixed right or I am going to have to withdrawal my purchase offer!

This was posted once before a while back, but you gotta ask yourself...how did he not see the Maltese Falcon???

My guess is that he thought he could cross but didn't realize it was doing 20+ knots. Tonnage rules trump "Starboard" rules.

One quote I saw stated that the skipper of the 40 footer actually was on parallel course on port, tacked onto starboard and then ran into the MF.

Just glad nobody was killed.

BTW, Stand By, the smaller of the two boats, actually fled the scene of the collision.

My guess is the capt. of the 40 footer is busy holding his neck/back and looking for a lawyer. Maybe we'll see him in Chicago boat shopping!
