Wagner is great up to about 40 knots or so. At 50 knots, the wind is shreiking so loud through the shrouds you can't hear the stereo - at 60 knots, you can barely hear yourself think - and maybe that's good.

On one Transatlantic race the sky was the appropriate hue and the waves properly large so the on watch, myself included, began to sing the "ride of the Valkyries", or rather, dum-de-dum it, cuz no one knew much German in the crowd. Finally a bucket of water came from the companionway, along with a reminder, filled with short Anglo Saxon words, that there were four people trying to sleep below. I can never go through rough weather now without having that melody run through my mind.
