it's been a while since I messed around with my sextant, but it kind of depends on the lattitude of the sun at the time of the shot, doesn't it? and if the sun was over the equator, then the reading on the sextant would 90 deg on the equator and 0 degrees at the poles?

Is that before or after you correct for height of eye, index error and total correction?

It took me 4 years to earn the grade of Navigator.
When you get your Bowditch, make and use copies
of the appropriate forms. That will lessen the mistakes.
