Doing this also prevents the autolinking engine from picking up words like rigging in a url and screwing up the link.

I once heard a story about a shiny new car being delivered by sailboat, a 15' inflatable was lashed on top of it inflated. It rolled off the deck during a storm, and the inflatable was seen, swamping around the islands, with a car underneath it.
