The entire trip was amazing... the perspective from the water has to be experienced... no words or even pictures (took over 100) could do it justice. We passed under 7 Bridges during our maiden voyage and it was amazing...

Trip number two will be up the Hudson... not sure how far, but at least an overnighter.

I''m glad you had a great trip. I''ll be going the opposite direction in July.

When you make your trip north on the Hudson let me Know. My Yacht Club ( Chelsea Yacht Club ) is approx 65mi. north of NYC and there are some great places to see on your trip north (West Point,Vanderbuilt Mansion, Roosevelt Mansion, Rondout Creek in Kingston),eat(Cold Spring,Newburg, Poughkeepsie,Kingston) and stay over.

Well, it finally stopped raining and we''re going to head out tomorrow on our trip up the Hudson. I just purchased a Catalina 36 in Mystic and the boat has a 23 hp engin, I would like to sail the boat down Long Island sound and go up the Husdson through the Lake Champlain canals. Has anyone done this and how was the trip. The trip through Hells Gate sounds pretty scary. Does anyone have advice or a place I can find additional resources?

A Big Thank-you

I would like to just say a big 'thank you' to all who are adding to this thread. You guys and gals are sure inspiring me.

I have had the great fortune of being offered a '72 Tylercraft 26 currently sitting on the hard in Lindenhurst, L. I., and I am planning on sailing her back to Bucksport, Maine where I live.

I initially thought about just heading east but after some more thinking, am coming to the decision to sail west to the Hudson and up through via the East River and on across the L. I. Sound. The transit is going to be planned for latter part of this coming summer '10, and have a solid 7 months to prepare.

So for now, I will close and just say again, thank you all for posting your experiences and help for us who haven't yet enjoyed what you all have.
