offshore plotting sheets

I will be cruising from Norfolk to Bermuda in June and am wondering what would be the best way to create or buy a blank chart to draw in the location of the Gulf Stream and its eddies. The NOAA Newport-Bermuda chart does not work for my route. I was thinking of just drawing my own plotting sheet(s) on large paper with a lat-long grid but I would be interested in what others have done. Thanks for any input!

Yes, perfect way to do it. Keep the sheet and use it again, just make a new start point when needed. Use a scale to show you have actually moved, or it can be depressing!

"Base" charts/maps for plotting purposes, etc. from NOAA: Ocean Prediction Center--Atlantic Base Map

Just select the one that best suits your needs and scale it up/down or 'crop' in a 'grafix program' to get the 'size' you want.

The base maps from OPC look good. I'll look at plotting them out on C-size paper.

I've used pilot charts in the past.

P.S. Auspicious, what is a "cut and paste" sailor?

If you have a decent grafix program you can 'enhance' the LAT/LON divisions by pasting in then carefully scaling 10:1 or 100:1, etc. 'grids' from the grfx program.
