Looking around many different marinas, I often see boats tied up by merely dropping a looped end of a dock
line over a
cleat. I have seen a couple of incidences where the loop has partially come off the
cleat. It seems to me that this is not a very secure way to tie up a boat, as surge or wakes could cause the loop to free itself from the
cleat. What are other''s thoughts on securing one''s boat?
