VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - The Canadian Coast Guard rescued a woman who floated 15 kilometers (9 miles) across the Georgia Strait on Wednesday after falling off a sailboat near Vancouver.
Rescuers said the 40-year-old woman was believed to have spent about nine hours in the water without a life jacket, but was conscious when she was found by another boat. She was treated for hypothermia.
The woman had been reported missing after the boat she was on ran aground near where the Fraser River enters the strait, which separates mainland British Columbia and Washington state from Vancouver Island.
It was believed she was pulled out to sea by the strong current.
