Re: Flying Scot - did I buy the wrong boat?

I just can't imagine the OP who is long gone, was thinking maybe I like sailing and chose the Flying Scot as the best boat ever built and went out and bought a brand new top of the line racing FS for...

Re: Drone for sailing video

I fly multirotors and planes and they are fairly easy to fly until they are coming back at you. When I am rusty the whole reverse sensing makes things tricky.

Re: Sailboat cost spread sheet

The boat is an Ericson 32.

Given the condition of the sails it sails very nicely at least compared to the Catahunters I have been chartering and makes a nice floating condo on the water.

I...

Re: Sailboat cost spread sheet

How goes it Greg,

This is Jordan E. from Turkey Wings, Footloose and late nights at NOYC. Did Stumble survive Katrina?

That is the direction I am heading, capital improvements one of these...

Re: Sailboat cost spread sheet

That is what I was seeing from some of the other responses.

"I just pay it, i'd rather not know."

With 6 owners on the boat and the no upgrades this century and maybe none last either, owning...

Re: looking for help on where to set my jib block

I am having trouble wrapping my head around sail trim this morning. So went back to read these articles.

I noticed this article is from 1973. It's interesting this article is still being sourced...

Re: looking for help on where to set my jib block

Thanks for correcting Jeff, so I was able to correct mine. It's been so long since I have had to make any adjustments to a headsail. On my boat the sails are too old to make much of a difference...

Re: Drone for sailing video

Were any of those into the water?

Do you use yours over water?

What do you estimate it would take from scratch to learn to fly it well enough to be willing to take off from a boat and land on...

Re: Sailboat cost spread sheet

So up till yesterday the boat was managed something like this:

For a small deposit I owned 1/6 of a boat. Each person has quarterly dues. You reserve online and add some money to the boat kitty...

Re: looking for help on where to set my jib block

Its been covered on how to get your sail right. I come up at it with a different perspective. I look at car placement adjusting the twist in the jib.

If the car goes back, the sheet will pull on...

Re: Progressive Insurance Claim question

I think you got this backwards. Liability is the minimum coverage you can have. It covers other people against your screwing up. You can't even get into a guest slip unless you have liability...

Re: Drone for sailing video

I built my own for under $300 but am afraid to fly it much until I get better. It will probably cost me another $3-400 to make it a professional quality filming rig out of it.

As much as phantom...

Re: Sailor missing 66 days found! Breaking News.

If he used the wrong lingo but knew how to sail I would give him credit for his skills, but he was not qualified to be out on that boat.

Maybe he is qualified to be our next President, does the...

Sailboat cost spread sheet

I am part of a group of owners on a sailboat. One guy has handled the dues collection and costs for a while but not done much as far as organizing it. I am looking to take over and organize things...

Re: Found This Bristol for Sale - Thoughts for New Sailors?

The Bristol looks pretty nice for its age. As long as the engine is okay, this boat will get you on the lake this summer. One thing to consider is the overall picture of each boat. One boat is...

Re: Sailor missing 66 days found! Breaking News.

This guy didn't even know the most common sailing lingo.

The boat had a ceiling and floors, lines holding up the mast and ropes attached to the mast.

"At this time the drain holes decided to...

Re: Pole end jamming

It seems every boat I have raced on suffers this same issue with the Spin pole jaws. The older they are the more finicky they are, even if "we just had it rebuilt last season."

We have WD-40...

Re: Finally some footage of me sailing

I think the comment was aimed at, "No serious PHRF racing boat is sporting dodger and cushions." But since you are racing in the bay or even outside the bay, in conditions that would send us...

Re: Results of the survey

I just sent an email to the surveyor to get the lowdown of what is expected and is acceptable to accomplish these repairs.

They are not as onerous I expected.

Re: Results of the survey

Are you asking about the sea strainer or the boat?;) It's an Ericson.

I do not know which model and this is the first boat with an inboard i have owned. I will get to know the motor and it's...

Results of the survey

I am a owner of an Ericson 32 along with a group of other owners. I am relatively new to the boat but the boat has been running for years in a state where the maintenance was just enough to keep the...

Re: Need Help with Neglected Boat

Seems like the best bet. Someone with more time and motivation may take it off your hand. If you 2-3 grand to spend and a free slip, you can be sailing this weekend on a boat ready to go.

Re: One day in Vancouver what to do?

Of course I had to look at the pictures of boats in the window. But that is just a pipe dream. I did not recognize most of the boats, except for a Macgregor 65, not among my lists of boats I'd like...

Re: One day in Vancouver what to do?

Spectacular.

The views in on the flight were awe inspiring. I looked at all the abundance of islands and bays to explore. Only had enough time to eat some greasey but great tasting noodles and...

Re: Good Small Boat for Older, Fatter Woman to learn on

Beat me to it. I got mine for $1000. It needed work but for $2-3000 you could get a nice one with trailer. You could rig it by yourself in 15 minutes. It will sail 2 people but also has a two...
