and if it has not been in the water in almost 30 years make sure it holds air and bounce on the tubes quite a bit in the yard to make sure the seams are good.

Re: High moisture reading

Well since you think it will take 30,000 to 40,000 to set it right, figure it will be at least 80,000 so it better be free to make it worth your while. As long as you pull the boat a while before the...

Re: How much does spending an extra 50,000 on a boat cost

The depreciation is hard to calculate, as the added 50,000 may get you into a boat that depreciates less, say it gets you into a Hinkley that actually may appreciate or a Halberg Rassey that might...

Re: Looking for a boat of live aboard

Yes, but the only Santana 28 I found is listed for $2,000 so even at $495 you are talking 25% of the listing price (and likely 50% of the sale price) of the boat. On a more complicated and bigger...

Re: Looking for a boat of live aboard

Thing with a survey is they are going to be close to a grand(about $20 a foot + sea trial and possibly mileage multiple times to get there). So on a boat like a Santana 28 it might be overkill...

Re: Sailrite LSZ-1 WANTED

I hesitated to mention the Barracuda because I don't think it is really that great of a value compared to the Sailrite machine. They are not clones, as Sailrite does not make a machine. They modify...

Re: Sailrite LSZ-1 WANTED

If you are trying to save some money Defender (and Amazon) sell the Reliable and it is reported to be the exact same without the blue paint. I believe the model is the Barracuda. Sailrite of course...

Re: Beneteau Oceans 45

The shallow draft is 5.75’ so not that shallow. Better than the 7+ foot of the the regular.

Re: "Most common" boat - Lake Ontario

Yes, these days you kind of have to expect to sail the keel off the older boat and plan on disposing of it when you are done. If you find a buyer it is really just a bonus to help you get a bigger...

If you have a Radio Shack locally with a going out of business sale this stuff is the GOOD contact cleaner, and was 40% off.

Re: Found This Bristol for Sale - Thoughts for New Sailors?

I think it looks nice. I noticed this listing, but it is just out of my range distance wise. I do wonder how old the photos are. But if they are recent then it might be a very good boat. Simple, and...

Re: Retiring soon...

Well it does sound like a lot of boat for a first timer. But I think it certainly can be done, but what I don't understand is he says he can't afford a power boat. Sure day to day operating expenses...

Re: Marina personnel attached battery wrong

I agree with Caleb. Sounds like they are trying to make it right. It would not hurt to have someone look things over but if they announced their mistake they will likely get it all fixed.

Re: SOBER SAILING *help*

Well I own three, but have not turned the tv tuners on any of them on in over 6 years, don't miss it at all, though I do admit to watching movies on on one, and on my computer. I will catch an...

Re: SOBER SAILING *help*

I agree that I would start off with a shorter charter. Keep records of your charter, and you might want to get some sort of signature from the captain if you participate in sailing. It may help if...

Re: Heyo! I'm new.. but I'm looking to see if someone can help me..

Well lanyards are actually a fun craft to work on. Not only are they fun to make they are practical. This seems to appeal to a practical manly kind of guy who might want want to be macrame things...

Re: Good Small Boat for Older, Fatter Woman to learn on

Is their any place that rents small sailboats to tourists? You could rent a lot for $1500 and perhaps make a deal with the rental place to get a good price for the whole summer when available. Then...

Re: NY/CT/LIS Boatyard & Marina help?

Did not even think about your size limitations. Whites could put the boat in the water, but I don't think they have had a slip available in years, at least one that can handle a sailboat. I may think...

Re: NY/CT/LIS Boatyard & Marina help?

Well one thing to keep in mind, where you put it in now, is not where you have to keep it in the future. So you can try one place and if it is not convenient or does not make you happy then find...

Re: Harbor 25 - where to mount a chartplotter

Well welcome to the forums. That is a pretty day sailor there! Looks like you have two options either bulkhead, or a swing out companionway mount. Either will give a good view, the swing arm of...

Re: Beautiful Alberg on the cover of GOB is

Re: what to check for before boat delivery?

Not much of my list is out of the ordinary for spring commissioning, the only real difference is that it all has to be done at once by a deadline. You might not worry that much about lifelines, and...

Re: what to check for before boat delivery?

Well you want to make sure everything is top shape. Did you have a survey done before purchase? If so then they likely gave you a list of things, normally listed as safety, urgent, and optional type...
