Re: First Boat Buying Advice

I would echo the comment about joining a sailing club and experience sailing on different types of boats. If you are looking for a day sailor, a nice boat to start off with is a Flying Scot, 19 feet...

Re: Feeling Foolish and Discouraged!

I found out several years ago that you treat all large purchases (houses, cars, boats) as a strictly business decision. Do not "fall in love" with anything until you own it. Take the emotion out of...

Re: The Infamous Leeward Shrouds

I'm no expert, but I was told that your shrouds should never be loose like your video shows. I would tighten them down to prevent the flapping.

Re: Our hull is WET! Ammonia washing???

Wow, we start out with a question about ammonia wash and end up talking about trees and sewer plants. That's pretty funny.

Re: Need advice on ST-4000 Autopilot

I think I found the problem on my ST-4000. It seems the data cable can cause "No Data" readings on an intermittent basis. Last week-end it was working fine, then went into the ND phase and about 5...

Re: Need advice on ST-4000 Autopilot

Thanks, capttb. I'll check it tomorrow, but the rudder sensor is working fine and last year I would get intermittent headings. I thought it might have been a connection but they all checked out....

Re: Need advice on ST-4000 Autopilot

I don't think the unit would be working if the power was off. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

Need advice on ST-4000 Autopilot

I have a problem with my Raymarine ST-4000 autopilot. I checked through previously posted threads and didn't see this problem discussed. My problem started last year and the autopilot is still doing...

Re: Had a chance to sail on an America's Cup (2005 vintage) boat

Wow, what a great experience. I long for the days when the America's Cup was sailed with monohulls. I just don't like drag racing catamarans with fixed wing sails.

No matter what the facts are in this situation, it was tragic and fathers, brothers, sons and friends lost their lives. My thoughts and prayers go out to the survivors and the families who lost their...

I would agree with GeorgeB. They are both good boats and are similar in build quality. The Catalina is more comfortable but the Cal is somewhat faster. I don't think you could go wrong with either...

There are a few wind turbines on Lake Erie and every time I drive by them on the way to my boat, there isn't enough consistent wind to keep them turning. They are a waste of taxpayer money.

I agree with Bubblehead. A Catalina 30 would be a great fit and you could find a mid to late 80's version in really good condition for probably $24,000-$28,000. It would have plenty of room for your...
