Re: Looking for some opinions on our shortlist of boats!

Not to burst your bubble but you might want to hold off on your upgrade until you see how well you deal with having an older child aboard and how well your son takes to sailing as he gets older...

Re: Tragedy near the Bay Bridge

I agree with the no wake zone around the bridge although it would have to be set back quite far on each side to allow space and time for the wakes to dissipate. A planing hull throws its biggest...

Re: Looking for a new slip for Fall

We're driving from the Towson area so it's really about a 30 minute minimum drive to get to the water whether we go north or south.

Re: Looking for a new slip for Fall

Middle River is probably the northern limit and Herring Bay the southern and definitely want to stay on the western shore.

Looking for a new slip for Fall

We haven't signed up to stay in our slip in Baltimore harbor past mid-September and would like to find new digs in a quieter, prettier, and less costly area. We'd like a slip for September thru...

Re: Tragedy near the Bay Bridge

That's really great, Shawn.

As usual, I heard so many conflicting and inaccurate reports from the media. Yesterday several news outlets claimed it was a 17' sailboat that sunk but also that it was...

Re: 2015 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

We've basically all but given up. Unfortunately avoiding Kent puts the Wye beyond what we consider reasonable weekend overnighting range but for us it's OK to save it for longer cruises when we have...

Re: Poll: Baltimore as a Destination

I don't disagree but I also don't get why Baltimore is painted with a broad brush while people are more willing with almost any other large city to make distinctions between areas and neighborhoods....

Re: Poll: Baltimore as a Destination

If you plot the 2015 murders to date out on a map (as you can do here Baltimore Homicides - baltimoresun.com (http://data.baltimoresun.com/bing-maps/homicides/)) youíll find that not one of them is...

Re: Bad Survey - Sue for Return of Deposit?

If nothing else, this is a reminder of how important it is to look at a boat with both your heart and head. Boat shoppers are always well served to show up to see a boat with a notepad and camera in...

Re: Spring boat show - don't waste your time

It’s now possible to fill up pretty much every weekend between March and October with boat shows, seminars, classes, rally prep courses, and/or owners’ group rendezvous. Almost all of these events...

Re: Indy Canvas Charleston, SC Unprofessional Unresponsive

I've purchased mail order canvas goods from the Sailboatowners.com store (http://shop.sailboatowners.com/index.php) and have been very pleased. Would recommend taking a look. They have a lot of...

Re: YETI Cooler worth it?

Another alternative to consider is the Coleman "Marine Extreme" cooler. It gets very good reviews, sells for under $100, and some people even say it performs as well or better than the Yeti. I don't...

Re: YETI Cooler worth it?

Unless the boat has no electrical and/or charging system, I'd be more inclined to go with a portable refrigeration unit like an Engel or Dometic. With very low amp draw it will make ice and even keep...

Re: Chartering out of Rock Hall... a few questions.

Castle Harbor and Mears have awesome pools and both have restaurants on site. Haven't been to Mears in ages but stayed at Castle a couple years ago and staff were friendly and they had free coffee...

Re: Chartering out of Rock Hall... a few questions.

I’m not sure why you’d go through the Narrows to get from Rock Hall to Annapolis unless you planned to stop in the Wye or St. Michaels (which I would recommend). You can nearly sail a straight rhumb...

Re: Crew - Airport - Chesapeake Bay Destinations

Baltimore Inner Harbor Marina and also the Baltimore City Dockmaster's pier at the Inner Harbor are both walkable from the light rail.

Re: SAIL Snowbird Rally 2015- Now less for more

Other critiques of this event aside, 10/24 seems a bit late to depart Hampton. For ostensibly being geared toward ICW newbies, one would think an earlier departure would allow more time to beat the...

Re: Observations From the 'Field'

Graham,

Thanks for posting this information. We're planning to head south this fall and have made some similar outfitting choices - with the exception of the watermaker.

I'm still struggling...

Re: New AIS Rule

Given how hard it has been to convince the boating public of the benefit of running two wires between their DSC VHF radio and GPS unit, I'm not overly optimistic that those same boaters are going to...

Re: New AIS Rule

Hopefully this will mean AIS transponders will become less expensive. Class B units seem to have hit a floor of about $500 a few years ago that has been slow to be broken.

Re: Living aboard in the Florida Keys...

Thanks for sharing this Gary. We tend on this forum to get so carried away discussing gear, maintenance, and the things that go wrong with boats that itís easy to lose sight of why we sail.

If...

Re: Cambridge MD Sailnet Rendezvous July 25-26

Considering Cambridge is 15 miles upriver from the mouth of the Choptank, 40 miles from Annapolis, and 60 from Baltimore, it's really not a convenient location for anyone who doesn't already keep...
