Here's a video montage set to a tune I wrote while on a trip up through the Pacific NW. The boat was "Firefly" a 34' Bavaria chartered out of San Juan Sailing in Bellingham, WA.

Re: 1995 Sabre 362 or Catalina 36MkII 2004

Catalinas are fine boats. I've owned and chartered them for years- Built for practicality and functionality. Easy to work on & maintain. However last summer in downeast Maine I sailed a Sabre 362 for...

Re: Video While Sailing?

Yes- I use 'em and like 'em. Get a few different mounts- I like the suction cup- it really sucks (in a good way). Be sure to rig a tether- Partially submerged shots can be interesting. The great...

Re: Navionics chart plotter / GPS app for Droid phone, plus Chesapeake Smart Buoys

Your post nudged me to consider bringing my old, outdated iThing (which still has a functioning GPS & WiFi) as a backup on our next trip. Thx for that suggestion.

Tide Graph is a nice app, but...

Re: Navionics chart plotter / GPS app for Droid phone, plus Chesapeake Smart Buoys

My sweetie and I both installed Navionics on our iThings to use as backups for cruises this past summer (Lake Michigan & the Pacific NW). It was about $40 - the most I've ever spent on an app. I...

Re: unverisal M12

DOH! - That's right- On my Catalina 27 (with a Universal M18) you pull the throttle cutoff (T-shaped) handle. Look for that or a kill button, usually located near the ignition. Then turn off the key....

Re: unverisal M12

Not wanting to state the obvious, but the M12 is a diesel engine. You don't turn it off by turning the key (or pulling out the fuel line). There should be a throttle cutoff handle near the controls...

Re: Maine sailing community

Check out the ActiveCaptain website. In addition to one of the nicest browser-based chart displays I've seen, it's full of marina and anchorage reviews. BTW The folks who run it are not too far away...

Re: Getting Started at 50

It's NEVER too late to start and 50 is pretty young. A few things to try/consider:

Spend time sailing small boats (Lasers, Thistles, etc.). I've seen a lot of folks who went directly to...

Re: Newbie looking to join a crew

Ditto on the "get experience" advice. What do you have to offer them other than being willing? You should have some experience and be able to offer practical contributions (money, be able to fix...

Re: Greetings and a question?

Years back I had a Catalina22 and the cable pin broke where it attached to the swing keel. She was in the water at the time. With the keel down, there was no way to get her on a trailer. I could've...
