Re: Percentage self-taught sailors?

I started out on my own, sort of. My wife at the time had more experience, having sailed a Sunfish as a girl scout once when she was 8 or 9. Seriously tho, neither of us had any idea how to sail,...

Re: Solstice inflatable

Thanks Christian. You press into the tube and consider it inflated at 2 inches of deflection? that seems like a lot, and that it'd still a bit under inflated. And I'm assuming you mean 2 inches...

Re: Solstice inflatable

Terry, actually I just had the thing delivered yesterday. Took about 15 minutes (or less) to pump up with the included foot pump. It was still holding air when I checked it this morning. :)

A...

Will do, Christian, and thanks for the offer, I might take you up on it. I already downloaded and read through the operator manual. I pick the engine up today after work. :)

Re: Solstice inflatable

Well, I went ahead and bought it. For $500 it seemed like a good deal. Key elements about this unit was it's small size and a hard floor. Also, it had great reviews on Amazon. It appears as though...

Solstice inflatable

Hi All,

Has anyone used, or seen this brand of inflatable? There's a lightning deal on Amazon right now for their small version for $500 for the next couple hours, and I need a decent small...

Re: Portable Batt. Charger Recommendations?

thanks guys, I don't know the amperage of my onboard battery charger, but yeah, it's only been a week. So maybe there's nothing to worry about. :)

Portable Batt. Charger Recommendations?

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a good, fast, portable battery charger? My boat was pulled last weekend by the marina and I'm heading up there tomorrow to finish putting her to bed. The batteries...

Re: Mast shaking in gusts

Thanks all. Unfortunately I do not have a backstay adjuster. while I confirmed my lowers (and the rest of the rig) is tuned appropriately, I'll try putting another half turn or so on the lowers to...

Re: Reducing bird mess

Thanks All, so far it's only been the swallows that are the real problem. while we have tons of seaguls and cormorants, I don't see many of those actually on boats. ReefMagnet is right though, they...

Reducing bird mess

Oh, and the Caliber's deck was clean, so it seems to work form them, but it's possible too that they scrubbed their deck that afternoon.

Reducing bird mess

Hi all, weekend sailor here. Every time wifey and I come up to the boat it's a ritual to clean the deck. With no one on the boat mon-fri to repel boarders, we're always left with bird mess. Mostly...

Mast shaking in gusts

Ahhh, that could be it; my boat also has a single set of shrouds coming from aft-swept spreaders.

Re: Mast shaking in gusts

Thanks Smurph, that's what I'm hoping. Not sure what else I could do anyway beyond tightening the shrouds beyond the usual specifications.

Mast shaking in gusts

Thanks for the idea smurphy, I did as you suggested and the furled jib is pretty tight already and the forestay is rather devoid of sag. Perhaps it's just the perfect combination of wind speed and...

Mast shaking in gusts

Thanks so much. The boat is a 2000 Beneteau 361. The shaking isn't so bad that I can't live with it. As long as it's not a problem then I'm happy. :)

Mast shaking in gusts

I have a noob question here. The wife and I are weekending on the boat like normal. Currently we are in the slip, experiencing 16 knots winds on the port beam, with gusts into the low...

Re: Catalina-22, O'day-22, or this curveball Starwind!

Tube, where are you sailing from? You mention the islands so I'm assuming Western Lake Erie? If so, that's where I sail and I have my boat docked at Sandusky Harbor Marina. Unless you're in...

Re: Bird nests in the boom

Thanks All, I like the sponge idea; actually I like the "sail the boat more" solution the best. Alas, I have a long drive to the marina so only get the pleasure of sailing on the weekend. ;)
