Tips for not getting cheated on fuel when chartering.

Hi everyone, we chartered with a company in the BVI in 2013. I don't want to name the company we used, but at the end of the charter, we were billed for diesel required to top up the tank. Fair...

Re: How many volts at the glow plugs

The thing is, the voltage is exact the few times I tested by activating the glow plug button at the control panel. .3. The meter does not jump around, as I'd expect with a short or grounding issue. ...

Re: How many volts at the glow plugs

Yes, this is with the glow plugs disconnected.

I removed the connection from the first plug, (all are connected in series) and measured from the terminal to the engine block for ground.

12...

How many volts at the glow plugs

Hey everyone,

Using multimeter, I measured just .3 volts to my glow plugs when activated. Shouldn't this be 12 volts?

Seems obvious, am I missing something?

I measured from the wire...

Thanks Tropicat. All wiring is shiny new clean. I don't think corrosion is an issue.

Re: Voltage Drop Problem: battery, wiring or both

Rick,

I'm not sure I understand? Is this to address an engine control panel switch issue? In my boat, the engine control panel is about 12 to 15 years old, but all other wring is new?

Re: Voltage Drop Problem: battery, wiring or both

The 10s/9s were measured at the battery posts while cranking. I get 12.6+ under no load, then low 10s while starter in cranking. The thing is, when I take the battery to Napa they load test it and...

Re: How to find electrical load of 20HP diesel

The 2awg is a little thinner & more flexible. With the way by panel & switch is setup, the thinner wire will be much easier to install, in this case. That is..if the wire size is adequate.

Great places to charter?

I've just come back from 16 days on a boat in the BVI. What a fantastic place to sail. Good weather, lots of places to explore, nothing too far from anything.

Anywhere else in the world as good...

Re: Going to BVI! Bring cash?

Everyone ok with leaving cash stashed on the boat?

I could always hide a little zip lock bag of cash somehwere I guess. Are boat break-ins a problem in the BVI?

Re: Going to BVI! Bring cash?

Thanks. About how much cash per day would you think? Could a couple (two people) get by on $50 a day cash? Is that too much?

Re: Props catching seaweed

Thanks Rik,

You'd think your setup would catch all kinds of stuff! Any my set up would not since it is so protected behind the keel. I don't get it.

Prop looks nice!

Re: Props catching seaweed

Rik,
Do you have a shaft zinc near the prop? Is your prop behind a keel or fully exposed?
