Re: Draft-constrained marina

Mostly daysailing, possibly with the family (inc. a 9 and 7 year-old), so I'm looking for something more relaxing than a Hobie.

Draft-constrained marina

I just moved to the northern Virginia area (after a few years in the dry Midwest) and am looking at buying a sailboat (I've owned two previously). Unfortunately, the channel to the nearby (and...

Re: One Last "All is Lost " thread

Yes.

Three Cal 39s.

The credits name three Cal 39s that were bought in Southern California and have themselves to the art. The credits say, "Rest in peace," for the three boats.

Re: End of the trip, now what....too much stuff?

Why not buying another boat and sailing it back? This is, after all, a sailing forum. :)

Re: Do you believe in miracles???

Yes. After the first race today, they said that the ETNZ would have port entry on the last two races.

Re: Old Glory, slightly moldy. What to do?

I don't think any of Johnnycat's response has anything to do with the OP's question. And I certainly isn't relevant or welcome in a discussion on the proper disposal of a sailing ensign.

Re: How Do I Replace a Cntinuous Furling Line??

Easy: Find a rigger or someone who can splice lines. They can replace it for a modest fee.

Harder: Learn to splice lines yourself.

Re: Mutiny at Dawn - Transpac Race 2013

RD would have to answer that. It was his decision.

But as someone pointed out above, a US Attorney would have zero zilch nada interest in a case like this.

Re: Mutiny at Dawn - Transpac Race 2013

Hawaii law doesn't apply on the high seas.

As a US-flagged vessel, federal law would apply to a physical assault or murder on the high seas. But the State of Hawaii couldn't arrest anyone without...

Re: Mutiny at Dawn - Transpac Race 2013

And why would the state of Hawaii have any jurisdiction over incidents that happened in the middle (relatively speaking) of the Pacific?

Re: Where to retire?

Marathon sounds wonderful, except it's a bit far from home. That's a pretty damning indictment of Chesapeake sailing, which I thought was the best sailing area on the East Coast.

What about the...

Where to retire?

I'm nowhere near retirement (easily 15-20 years), but still like to wonder and dream about where we'll end up retiring.

I want to retire somewhere on the coast so that I can sail regularly. ...

Short charter in Charleston, SC

My wife and I might finally get away from the kids and get a short (couple of nights) "second honeymoon" in Charleston, SC. I've never sailed in Charleston Harbor before. We obviously won't be...

Re: Recommendations needed - baby/infant PFD and harnesses

We put our infants in baby seats, bungee corded the seat in the cockpit, and then tethered the seat on a short enough line that it couldn't get out of the cockpit:

Re: You are NOT "FISHING"

Hence why the term "right of way" is in quotation marks. These fishermen obviously don't know the rules in these situations. The rules aren't extremely clear.

But sailors are the ones who are...

Re: You are NOT "FISHING"

Sorry. There are some bad copies of the COLREGs online (and cited in this thread) that use "manageability" under the definition of vessels engaged in fishing.

Re: You are NOT "FISHING"

It's not the judge that would matter.

It's what I'm doing right then and there when your fragile little sailboat is CBDR with my larger and more powerful gas guzzler.

I'll sit there and yell at...
