The chainplates on our boat are close to the outside. The block and tackle lies flat on the deck and hasn't been a problem or even much of a trip hazard.

We take the furled jib sheets first down to the bow cleats, and then back to the winches. so birds cannot perch on the sheets.

Before taking the cover to any shop, you might want to clean the cover. Even canvas shops might charge you for cleaning before sewing. The reason is to protect their machines.
