Re: To worry or not to worry… blisters? (photos)

The measure for a good awlgrip job is the $150/foot or so you'll pay to a professional, so you get more like a $4,500 number for that yacht-quality result. I'd be surprised if the boat is otherwise...

Re: "Acceptance of the Vessel" question

Your quote does not make sense. Perhaps you meant to say 'the acceptance of yacht is subject to satisfactory survey and sea trial'? If your document is the YBAA contract, all that should be needed as...

Re: Boston Area Recommendations?

North East Rigging (NER) pretty much handles Boston and areas north, last year they replaced my standing rigging at Boston Harbor Shipyard. Seems they're in that yard once a week or so...

If the...

Re: Main halyard clutch, line slippage

Does the clutch hold when you are setting a reef? If yes, maybe the line cover is worn, try taking up a few inches of halyard at the head and see if a fresh cover section holds or not?

Re: Boat sank at the dock

Actually the fact I've done that in the past is the reason I say its likely to be pointless. Hey, maybe Boston is a backwater, the OP's boat is in XXXXXX {redacted per OP}, you give Google a shot...

Re: Online Captains License or class room?

FWIW, I got my license without taking a class. To me the big value of a class is the instructor knows the requirements to get through the process, which are almost more confusing and complex than the...

Re: RI Broker?

I would second Joe's recommednation of John, we bought through him last year and I felt he was a fair and reasonable guy to work with, seems to know the area coastal cruising market well.

Re: Newbie renting a keelboat - dumb idea?

No, no and well no.

Renting you a boat without an insurance rider or the equivalent for your use, or other carefully prepared legal protections, puts the boat owner at risk not only for damage you...

Re: Choreography To Walk the Jib around the Rigging

You want to pull the foot forward, up towards the bow, until the wind has taken the clew to the new leeward side of the mast, then release the foot and trim.

Re: Mounting hardware on Boom

Congratulations on selecting a beautiful boat. I've always considered my fondly-remembered C&C 30 the best instance amongst my boat ownerships. Enjoy.

I expect the main halyard does not come back...

Re: Rigging Failures

No offense to the OP intended, but his speculation as to the causes of the problems that occurred seem to reflect a limited understanding of sailing, and the blames assigned to the skipper need other...

Re: Genny sleeve

I doubt that the dacron UV shield that Doyle glued to our new 135% adds even a pound to the weight of the sail and it certainly has no effect on the general use of the sail. I'm not sure what the...

Re: Genny sleeve

I've used genoa sleeves on a set of sailing club Harbor 20s. The use of a sleeve adds about 15 minutes to the getting underway/closing up time and I considered this practice a real pain. These...

Re: Midship Cleats...

Ideally use the same cleat that you have for your other dock lines. Be sure to have a plan to prevent the sheets hanging up on the cleat. I am planning to install a set of folding cleats for that...

Re: Should someone avoid buying a cruiser that was used for racing

In General you will reduce the cost of your investments if you buy a boat which has been used the same way you intend to use it: racer, daysailer, coastal cruising, bluewater, dock condo.

Buy a...

Re: Boat Too Cheap to get a Buyer's Broker?

FWIW, readers will understand the post better - the right adjective is "documented", not "registered", and the result is a certificate of documentation, not a title. Registering and a title relate...
