It appear as though the company that provides our Chat feature recently updated their software and now one of their modules is being 'mis-classified' by Norton/Symantec and possible containing a virus. Until they have this resolved we have de-activaed chat. We've opened a support incident with Envolve and they will hopefully have this corrected soon.

Re: What is a "Catalina smile" in regards to the Keel?
We had one on our boat, which required weeks of work and a few thousand dollars to repair correctly (in our eyes). Here's a link to a post with pictures of our smile: Take to the sea: Stranded at the...

Re: Transmission output flange fell off Yanmar 2QM15 - Theories re: why?
As an update, we received a replacement flange and locking nut from a friend who came to visit us from back home. We also decided to replace the engine mounts, as one of the adjustment bolts spun in...

Holy cow! I own a Nightingale 30 sloop and I thought it was the only one he ever made! I know this is an old thread, but I'd be curious to know if the original poster ever picked up this boat. I'd...

Re: Transmission output flange fell off Yanmar 2QM15 - Theories re: why?
Thanks Gary for the good advice. Unfortunately the hammer blows were my no-no. I used a wood chisel to pry the two coupling pieces apart. I think heat/dirt/rust conspired to glue the two pieces...

Ha! Harmony already got out the wood burner and engraved it in the transom.
Thanks for the tip on Cabo Yacht Center, gentlemen. I've got a poorly worded Spanish email waiting in their inbox as of...

Re: Transmission output flange fell off Yanmar 2QM15 - Theories re: why?
It would be a pain to put the flange back on to try now, but from what I remember, once the flange was pushed all the way in it was a tight fit.
Capt. Gary Randall, I'm with you that the flange...

You and I are probably in different leagues, but on my boat I have one charge controller for two 70W flexible panels and a ~60W wind turbine. All generation sources are tied straight to the 200Ah...

Re: Transmission output flange fell off Yanmar 2QM15 - Theories re: why?
This is the same nut that originally failed. I reused it by filing off the older calked spot. The threads look good on the nut still, nearly perfect with minor scoring. I plan to replace this nut now...

Re: Transmission output flange fell off Yanmar 2QM15 - Theories re: why?
This is how it looks in the schematics for the transmission, plus you have to have it this way in order to do the calking.
We used to keep the transmission in neutral under sail, but on the ocean...

Re: Transmission output flange fell off Yanmar 2QM15 - Theories re: why?
Faster: That's correct, the two coupling faces did not separate. The entire coupling came off the back of the transmission via the output spline, after the locking nut backed off.
I agree that...

Transmission output flange fell off Yanmar 2QM15 - Theories re: why?
Hello,
I recently had the output coupling from my Yanmar 2QM15 transmission fall out while underway (we didn't hit anything), disconnecting the prop shaft as a result. I'm in the process of...

How do you fold sails on deck?

Allio, good points about structural stability. You might be surprised how sturdy the frame is when it's cinched up tight. The PVC spine does lend it some flexibility, but my guess is that the frame...
