Re: What type of Keel do you prefer....

If that is the case... then hard to beat my lifting weighted daggerboard for trailering, or gunk-holing.. Boat literally can float in 18 inches of water (board up), and it's a self-righting boat,...

Re: Estimate of people learning to sail on annual basis?

I use local evidence to support my theory that sailing is on a decline. We (our local sail club) is a cheap club to get into ($60 a year), we have decent raft ups, meetings, dinners, races, and...

Re: What type of Keel do you prefer....

One that stays attached, or at least within the boat... Apparently I prefer NO keel, but rather a Lifting weighted daggerboard.

Re: Looking for a good "last boat"

Compac 23? Yeah, isn't great lines, certainly not the spoon bow, and sailing qualities aren't great, but space, and ease of sailing are quite good. Weight, and size are about right. The long shoal...

Re: First Charter- BVI, First time sailing a Cat, can't wait.

we just paid for split provisioning, for 6 days of our 7... it also removed 2 nights of dinners from the package. I hope that works, might still be too much, but hopefully not a terrible amount too...

Re: First Charter- BVI, First time sailing a Cat, can't wait.

Wife's carry on, is as-yet-to-be-determined. The wife and I are no strangers to traveling light, as we hobby together field trialing dogs. We traveled endless weekends together for every...

Re: First Charter- BVI, First time sailing a Cat, can't wait.

Ok, has anyone smuggled in an instrument, specifically a guitar?

My brother is dead set on bringing a "Bass" uke himself (about the size of a 3/4 guitar), and in turn has found a 3/4 guitar for...

Re: First Charter- BVI, First time sailing a Cat, can't wait.

Its the owners model 3 stateroom... which looked real nice for the smaller cat.
We opted for the Moorings.

Yes, I filled out their resume, but I also have an ace in the hole if you will, our...

First Charter- BVI, First time sailing a Cat, can't wait.

I am so green at this, that I don't know what all I don't know.

But our local sail club decided that we (as a group) should try to charter a couple boats in the BVIs. They were scrambling to get...

Re: Compac 19 as a trailer sailor

Oh if we are taking votes for models.. then my S2 7.9 (26 foot), or better an S2 6.9 (22 foot) are both infinitely easier to launch then the C19, or the First 235, they draw 18 inches or less of...

Re: Compac 19 as a trailer sailor

Lots of ways to launch a deeper draft. A shoal draft, or wing keel is easy compared to a find/deep arrangement.

No I wouldn't want to do it each time I was going to sail. But that has more to do...

Re: Goofy boater attaches shark to car

I dunno, makes sense to me... gets the weight out of the boat, and helps to hold the front of the tow vehicle down. I bet his tow vehicle travels better this way :)

Re: New Rig Tension tool

Most race instructions prevent adjustments to the rigging after the countdown sequence or, after the start.

Can't tell you the number of times I started a race with tensions for under 10 knots,...
